With over 60 years of history and more than 1,500 members, ABTA is the largest travel trade organisation in the United Kingdom. All ABTA Travel Agents have to pay to join and must meet certain requirements to be allowed membership. Companies must prove that they can meet the organisations' high standards of trading practice, with ABTA travel agents needing to meet the recommended financial requirements.

ABTA Travel Agents finances are regularly monitored and checked, to help reduce the risk of anything going wrong. Most importantly, all ABTA Travel Agents must continually adhere to a strict Code of Conduct, to maintain the reputation and standing of the association, and to promote the best interests of the client.
