With the prospects of a long winter ahead, this magnificent cruise is a dream come true for those who love the spirit of adventure. On this amazing journey you will soak up the sunshine of the Canaries before heading to South America. Witness the incredible array of exotic wildlife and plants as the rainforest meets the mighty Amazon, the world's greatest river.
Travel into Venezuela along the Orinoco River, home to the Angel Falls, the world's highest waterfall. Then visit the Caribbean relaxing to the rhythms of Tobago before sailing onwards to the Azores to bask in the sunshine of these delightful islands.
Sailing from Falmouth, a leisurely voyage south calls first at Lisbon, Portugal's impressive capital with its spectacular architectural attractions in the Parque das Nacoes, the atmospheric lanes of the medieval Alfama district, or the Castelo de Sao Jorge with panoramic views. A short sail to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, located on the northeast coast, is the cosmopolitan capital of Tenerife.
From Mindelo, discover the beauty of the Cape Verde Islands before sailing towards the coast of South America and Belem, gateway to the mighty Amazon.
Your journey down this mesmerizing river now begins with stops at Macapa and Almeirim, in the region known as Jari, both situated on the Amazon Delta, Alter do Chao, a fishing village of stilted houses on a blue lagoon with sandy beaches and in the village of Parintins, on Tupinambarana Island, the Indian community maintains its traditions. From the city of Manaus, Ocean Countess returns to the Atlantic with stops at Boca do Valeria and Santarem, bordered by the Amazon and Tapajos rivers, renowned as one of the most beautiful places on earth.
The two rivers run side by side without mixing. Called 'the meeting of the waters' by the locals, this phenomenon is a delight to behold as the milky coloured Amazon and the warmer deep-blue Tapajos form an identifiable contrast. Heading on to Ile du Diable in French Guiana, made famous by the film Papillion. In contrast, you sail to the Caribbean, Scarborough, on the island of Tobago, renowned for its wide, sandy beaches and a haven for wildlife. Scarborough is the capital located in a wide scenic bay, surrounded by mountains and forests of breadfruit, mango, cocoa and citrus.
Then back to the shores of South America, to visit the striking Venezuelan metropolis of Puerto Ordaz situated at the confluence of the Caroni and Orinoco rivers. Leaving the South American shores behind, you sail back to the Caribbean but this time Grenada, St George's the most picturesque city in the Caribbean located in a horseshoe-shaped harbour. Finally, homeward bound, you call in to The Azores and discover the delights of Horta and Ponta Delgada before your journey's end in Falmouth.
