Cruises from Falmouth to Norwegian Fjords
Norwegian Fjords - 12th April 2012 - 11 nights - ALREADY SET SAIL!
MV Arion has a yacht-like ambience, a particular style, charm and grace which can only be found on vessels of this size. Recently refurbished, Arion is able to offer you a truly wonderful cruising experience combined with an excellent, attentive service.
Dublin, is a city of contrasts, it is a modern, affluent centre of commerce and industry, a cultural capital and home to some of Europe's most accomplished artists and academics. By contrast it has beautifully preserved mansions and castles, splendid museums, magnificent churches and cathedrals, and streets, parks and docksides steeped in history.
Before leaving British waters we call into Ullapool, on the north eastern tip of Scotland. Ullapool is a picturesque fishing village with restaurants, shops, pubs and a museum not to mention the beautiful Highlands of Scotland on your doorstep.
Lerwick, is the capital and main port of the Shetland Islands being the most northerly and easterly town in Scotland. It boasts a modern and historic harbour, filled with leisure craft, commercial vessels and historic craft.
Now on to the most northerly destination of our cruise, Vik. Vik has its roots as an old Viking settlement and an early religious centre set in beautiful countryside. The call in Vik is purely to disembark passengers that are joining the "Norway in a Nutshell" excursion. Cruising along the Norwegian coastline we sail towards Flam. The Sognefjord, which is the deepest and longest Fjord in Norway leads us towards the small town of Flam, perched at the very tip of Aurlandsfjord and encircled by rocky walls and deep, still waters. Next port of call is the delightful medieval port of Bergen, renowned as "The Gateway to the Fjords". Enjoy the friendly and bustling atmosphere as you browse the town's cobbled streets. Bryggen, the old wharf area with its Hanseatic wooden houses and painted gables is a fine example of medieval architecture unsurpassed elsewhere in Scandinavia.
The area is of such importance that it has been hailed a UNESCO World Heritage site. As we make our way towards Ulvik, you will cruise in some of Norway's most dramatic coastal waters. Ulvik, "The Flower of the Hardangerfjord", offers an unspoilt, olde-worlde charm, a peaceful haven for enjoying the local beer or a gentle stroll. The pretty village of Eidfjord, is situated at the top of the Hardangerfjord, against a unique backdrop of sand and gravel terraces. The surrounding area is home to Norway's largest herd of wild reindeer, whilst mountain trout abound in the clear waters.
Lying on the Ryfylikefjord, the medieval city of Stavanger, is the fourth largest city in Norway. Stavanger is steeped in history dating back 900 years, with traditional wooden houses, quiet narrow lanes and Norway's only preserved medieval abbey, possibly one of the most beautifully located cities in the world. Leaving the delights and beauty of Norway, we cruise homewards but not before a stop off at Ostend in Belgium. Ostend is a cosmopolitan harbour city a world away from the mountain splendor of Norway. Known as the "City by the Sea" it has over 5 miles of sandy beaches, promenades packed with shops, bars and restaurants.
