At Newell’s Travel, we love helping you discover the world’s most captivating destinations, whether for leisure, adventure, or inspiration. Join us as our travel expert, Jo Merryman from our Tavistock branch, shares her recent educational trip to Amsterdam.
Exploring Amsterdam with Jetset:
“I recently had the wonderful opportunity to embark on an educational trip to Amsterdam. I’m so grateful to Jetset for the opportunity to experience Amsterdam as part of the exciting launch of their new route from Exeter Airport. It was such a privilege to be part of this milestone and to see firsthand how Jetset is opening up new travel opportunities right on our doorstep. Amsterdam is the perfect destination to showcase this launch full of culture, history, and charm and I can’t wait to share more about the trip.
Upon arrival, we enjoyed a memorable dinner at the renowned Cafe De Waag, a charming spot in the heart of the city, beautifully lit by the glow of 300 candles. The following day was filled with fun as we participated in a Selfie Challenge, exploring the many cultural and historic delights Amsterdam has to offer. After a lovely lunch at the 5-star Boutique Kimpton De Witt, we visited several museums, deepening our appreciation for the city’s rich heritage. We concluded our trip by experiencing a relaxing and scenic canal cruise, which was the perfect end to an unforgettable adventure.
Top Tip: I highly recommend taking a canal boat cruise to explore Amsterdam from the water. You can see so much by foot, but a cruise offers a completely different perspective of this beautiful city.
Best things to do in Amsterdam:
Selfie Challenge: A fun way to see the local attractions while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere and charm.
Begijnhof: A tranquil hidden gem in the heart of the city, famous for its historic almshouses still inhabited by religious nuns. The highlight was a Catholic church camouflaged as two townhouses.
Boutique Kimpton De Witt Hotel: We had a beautiful lunch at this luxurious 5-star hotel, inspired by Dutch design. The hotel smells divine, thanks to fresh flowers and spa-like scents, and offers free bikes, a social wine hour, and pet-friendly amenities.
Heineken Museum: An interactive journey through the history of this famous beer, topped with fantastic rooftop views of the city.
The Eden Hotel:
This hotel was a 4-star former chocolate factory with scenic views of the Amstel River. The décor was modern and clean, the beds were super comfortable, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel even has its own shop for late-night snacks and a pizza-making area. Perfectly located near Rembrandt Square and just 10 minutes from Central Station by tram.”
Final Thoughts:
Amsterdam is an incredible city with so much to offer from the lush Vondelpark, bustling shopping areas, and world-renowned museums like the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, and Van Gogh Museum. It’s a city that leaves a lasting impression and a special place in my heart.
