Dani from our Newellâs Travel Hayle branch recently jetted off to Amsterdam for a fun-packed city break â and came back full of top tips, local finds, and serious stroopwafel cravings!
She flew with KLM, the Dutch airline that might be under the radar for some UK travellers, but it really shouldnât be. With direct flights, excellent onboard service, and smooth connections, Dani found it the perfect way to start (and end) her trip stress-free.
KLM from Exeter? Yes Please!
“I recently had the chance to hop on the brand-new KLM route from Exeter to Amsterdam and what a fantastic city break it turned out to be! Big thanks to Jetset, who pulled the trip together, including flights, a lovely central hotel, and loads of fun stuff to do.
Stress-Free Start: Flying from Exeter
Flying out of Exeter Airport honestly felt like the holiday started early.
Small airport = less stress.
âïž Short walks to the terminal
âïž No long queues
âïž A chilled vibe with a cafĂ©, bar, duty-free and even WHSmith
If youâre all about easy travel, Exeter is a game changer.
Day 1: Explore by Foot
We hit the ground walking and itâs the best way to soak up the city.
From the iconic central station to canal strolls, flower markets, and the sweet smell of stroopwafels in the air, itâs a total sensory treat. Oh, and watch out for those bikes, theyâre everywhere!
The Heineken Experience
Not your average museum! This interactive tour takes you through the story of Heineken and yes, you get to try some. It tastes better in its hometown.
Xtracold Icebar
-9°C, everything is made of ice (yes, even your glass), and youâre handed a coat and gloves at the door.
The coolest bar in town? Definitely.
Fun, unique, and very Instagrammable.
Canal Cruise (My Fave!)
An hour drifting through the canals with a guide pointing out all the sights peaceful, picturesque, and the perfect way to see the city from a different angle. From historic buildings to hidden gems, it was both relaxing and informative. The gentle pace let us soak in the atmosphere, making it the highlight of my whole trip!
Where We Stayed: Two Amazing Hotels
đïž Eden Hotel Amsterdam (4â )
Right by a canal, walkable to everything, and super cosy.
Spacious twin rooms
Fab breakfast
Steps away from Rembrandtplein with bars, cafés and perfect people-watching spot
đïž Kimpton De Witt (5â )
This place is a little slice of calm just around the corner from the buzz of the city.
Near Amsterdam Central Station
Big, bright rooms with local touches
A restaurant, café, and a cool American-style bar (cocktails = top tier)
Final Thoughts: Why Amsterdam Should Be Your Next City Break
Charming canals, cool museums, leafy parks, and more places to eat than you could ever fit into one weekend. Add the easy flight from Exeter and you’ve got a mini break thatâs hassle-free and full of personality.
Amsterdam totally won me over and Iâm already counting down to my next visit!
