Maria Davey

SALES CONSULTANT

I knew that I wanted to have a career in travel when I went on my first overseas holiday to Majorca. Watching many travel reps organise plane-to-coach transfers, check us into our hotels, and manage the entertainment and excursions, made me realise that the travel world was for me.

Upon leaving school, I enrolled myself in an NVQ Travel and Tourism course at St Austell College. I met my course mates for a few days, and then I decided to jet off around the world with my mother for five weeks. We had visited many beautiful countries and cities such as Singapore, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Los Angeles. We also travelled to Australia since some of our family members lived there. The trip was an insightful experience that no tutor could ever teach, and I had learned so much by the time I was sixteen years old.

Later on in my life, I was very fortunate to go around the world again. This time it was with my husband for our honeymoon. We had visited Hong Kong, Cairns, the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney, California, Las Vegas and New York. Also, we had been to many European beach destinations together, including adventurous ski holidays and cruises.

After completing my studies, I then started my career in an independent travel agency in St Austell, and then eventually moved to Hayle, where I had joined the Newell’s Travel team.

There are so many things about my job that I love. However, the thing that I love the most about it is that no day is the same. All of our customers have different requirements and needs, and that is what makes me enjoy getting stuck into building complex itineraries just as much as building more simple ones. Nothing beats the feeling of hearing back from a customer, who is fresh from a holiday that I had arranged, telling you what a fantastic time they had, regardless of what part of the world they had travelled to.

Countries visited:

Thailand, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius, Barbados, Jamaica, USA, Oman, Greece, Italy, Norway, Iceland, Malta plus a few more. I have also Ocean Cruised on various ships and River Cruised.

Favourite destination:

I am unable to choose just one! I really loved South Africa as I was lucky enough to do a safari and see the Big Five. I also visited Singapore for a fantastic five night city break in 2019, which has fabulous sightseeing around every corner. Lastly, I adore the beaches of Greece and the wine, food, and art of Florence.

Last holiday:

My last Holiday was to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. My husband’s dream is to visit the Grand Prix track so it was a remarkable experience. Dubai is very hot however!

Where next?

Despite my thinking that I am well-travelled, I still have a huge bucket list that I would like to tick off one by one within the near future.

My family is very musically-oriented with a big love for jazz, so I would say that New Orleans is definitely on the cards.

I would also love to see the elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka, a monkey rehabilitation in South Africa, go on a Norwegian Cruise, and visit Croatia and Thailand.

And those are not the only entries to my bucket list!

Travel tip:

If you can afford it – do it!
Try and experience as much as you can and grab any opportunity that comes your way. Life is all about making memories.
