I have worked in travel for well over 20 years and I had joined the Newell’s Travel family during the summer of 2018, right after managing several travel agencies in Devon.

Countries visited:

Travel has always been a passion of mine. In the past, I was lucky to have lived and worked in both the southwest of France and Connecticut as a nanny.

During the year in the USA, I was privileged to visit many places, including New Mexico, Florida, Boston & Cape Cod, Washington DC and Rhode Island. Being just 45 minutes away, I spent most weekends in New York City and loved the city that doesn’t sleep.

After my work permit ended I headed to the West Coast, picked up a car and spent an amazing month driving the four states of Arizona, Utah, Nevada and California, finishing the trip off with the four days drive down the stunning coast along Highway 1. I loved the contrast of the wild national parks of Zion, Bryce and Monument Valley and the vast cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Backpacking was always the way for me to travel and I had a fantastic time with my sister travelling through a part of Asia. Overlanding from Bali to Jakarta, visiting the stunning temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, making our way from Singapore, through Malaysia; spending time on a few beautiful islands before heading over the border into Thailand.

Bangkok blew me away with its sound, sights, and of course, smells. Eventually, we flew over to Kathmandu in Nepal, one of my favourite places; we were so honoured to be invited to a small village to stay overnight with a family at their home and were truly humbled by their kindness.

We also went on a trek to a viewpoint of Mount Everest and a trek in Chitwan National Park, where we spotted a rhino, a sleepy sun bear, and tiger tracks in the sand in the same day. Our last stop was India, where we travelled overland from Calcutta to Rajasthan via the stunning Taj Mahal, eventually returning home from Delhi.

I also have made some amazing memories in Cuba, Cape Town, Morocco, Egypt, Dubai, Tunisia, Italy, Hawaii, Malta, and many more places around the globe.

Favourite destination:

I am unable to choose just one! I really loved South Africa as I was lucky enough to do a safari and see the Big Five. I also visited Singapore for a fantastic five night city break in 2019, which has fabulous sightseeing around every corner. Lastly, I adore the beaches of Greece and the wine, food, and art of Florence.

Last holiday:

Life slowed down 8 years ago when I became a mummy, but as a family, we have still managed a few ‘slower paced’ holidays to St Lucia, Antigua and Majorca as well as staycations during the pandemic.

I still have plenty of destinations on ‘my bucket list’- anywhere in South/Central America, Etosha National Park in Namibia, Jordan, Iceland and Easter Island. My dream is to climb to the crow’s nest of a proper clipper ship. One of my dreams is to travel on some of the worlds iconic rail journeys, like the Blue Train, the Ghan, the Rocky Mountaineer, the Kalka-Shimla toy train and the Jungfrau Express.

Where next?

Hopefully a Royal Caribbean cruise with my family.

Travel tip:
Be careful when buying things aboard.
For instance, don’t make the mistake I made when I thought that ‘complement’ mean ‘complementary’ (paid a hefty bill after that!)
