This blog post shares the incredible Norwegian fjord adventure of Jackie Wall from our Bodmin store, who joined an escorted sailing to guide and support our customers on their journey.
A Scenic Escape Like No Other
“Spring is such a wonderful time to explore the stunning Norwegian fjords, and I recently had the pleasure of joining an escorted sailing adventure with Newell’s. When we say “escorted,” what we mean is that I travelled onboard alongside a group of Newell’s customers to guide them through the journey answering questions, offering support, and keeping everyone company along the way. It’s a great way to make sure everyone feels comfortable and connected throughout the trip.
On this sailing, I was thrilled to accompany the guests, sharing my knowledge and helping them get the most out of this unforgettable experience.
If you’re interested in joining an escorted sailing yourself, I highly recommend checking out the Kerb to Cabin Sailings page. There are several upcoming trips where you can sail with one of our team members onboard, making your adventure even more special.
Port Highlights
🏔️ Skjolden
Home to the longest fjord in the world
Village only 500m from the ship
Great walking, fjord rib rides, and even a llama farm visit!
⚔️ Haugesund
Viking history meets city life
Town centre is 900m walk or take a Fred. Olsen transfer
Excursions from £30 to £199 (rib rides, city train, and more)
🏙️ Stavanger
Cosmopolitan city with a charming old town
Just 500m from the dock
Optional Lysefjord rib ride to see Pulpit Rock (600m high!)
🌄 Eidfjord
100m from the ship, peaceful and scenic
Try the marked walking trail or a seaplane tour (£279) for glacier views
Onboard the Balmoral
Stayed in an outside cabin on Deck 5 – light, airy, with blackout curtains
L-shaped beds – great for solo travellers sharing
Plenty of storage, in-room safe, and 2-pin sockets (adaptors available onboard)
Each night: a newsletter & mint on your pillow with next day’s details and spa/cruise offers
Why I’d Recommend Fred. Olsen (Especially If You’re Travelling Solo!)
The Balmoral is the perfect size small enough to cruise into the tightest fjords other ships can’t reach, but big enough to handle the North Sea in April.
The food? Fantastic.
The service? Spot on.
The whole trip? Flawless.
If you’re a solo traveller, Fred. Olsen is a brilliant choice. Smaller ships mean it’s easy to get around, and there’s a real sense of community onboard with plenty of activities to help you meet people (or enjoy time to yourself if that’s more your vibe).
Ready for Your Own Fjord-Filled Adventure?
If you’re craving natural beauty, fresh mountain air, and a truly unique cruise experience, I can’t recommend this trip enough. Let’s start planning your Norwegian escape today!”
